10:06 Because in my mind, I was like, that couldn't have been better. 10:09 I wasn't 13. 10:11 I'm 10 years older than you. 10:12 So 23, I was like, wow, I'm so jealous of that success. 10:16 But as a 13-year-old, are you like, well, my career is over. 10:19 No one's going to take me seriously. 10:20 Rebecca Black I was definitely, I was really scared. 10:23 I think most of, I don't think I knew how scared I was, but my world just like opened up. 10:29 Like I went from being just a like middle schooler with, you know, my little friends and being my kind of bubble of an Orange County kid. 10:37 And then I just didn't know, like I was like a fan of YouTube. 10:41 I was a fan of like Justin Bieber and like all the things happening then. 10:45 I wasn't ready for that then. 10:49 But looking back, obviously, like it's made me who I am and it's taught me so much. 10:52 And I don't think I would make the music I do now if it weren't for that. 10:55 Trisha Paytas Really? 15:06 Trisha Paytas And you did. 15:07 So after all that, you were still like, OK, I'm still I'm still going for it. 15:10 You don't want to hide. 15:10 Rebecca Black Yeah. 15:12 I mean, my like teenage years were kind of funny. 15:15 And that was where I met a lot of people like in the YouTube space. 15:18 And I kind of fell into that world. 15:20 And that was really fun for me. 15:21 And I met so many like lifelong friends through kind of like the early days of the Internet and all of that. 15:28 But I knew as I graduated high school and my parents were like, OK, what are you doing about college? 15:35 And I was like, 15:36 I think I'm going to move to LA actually. 15:39 And they were like, don't do that. 15:41 Soundbite Wait, really? 15:43 Rebecca Black They just, I mean, they're, they come from like a traditional, like educational background. 15:48 So they're like, but how do you, how do you expect to succeed in something if you're not going to school for it? 15:53 And I was basically long story short, just kind of like, you got to dress me. 15:58 Sorry. 15:59 But like, I got to do this. 16:00 I'm going to like, 16:02 Trisha Paytas really give myself a shot and learn how to write and figure it out no idea what i'm gonna do but i need to try for myself on my own terms and so yeah and that age i mean i do think that's the age i always thought well school's always there which you can always go back to school at 25 30 but like 18 is is a nice like sweet spot anymore you can do any age you want but that's like a nice sweet spot to be in the entertainment industry yeah yeah and i i think like it's so 16:26 Rebecca Black Funny because I'd been doing it at that point and kind of in and out of the industry at that point for like five years. 16:32 I felt so old. 16:33 I felt like my time was like running out as an 18 year old. 16:36 And I felt that so much throughout my early 20s too. 16:40 Trisha Paytas Yeah. 16:41 That's interesting. 16:41 What made you feel this? 16:43 Like the pressure of like social media? 16:46 Was it like your managers or just you internally? 16:48 Rebecca Black It was definitely certain people I worked with who I don't think realized like really what they were doing or what the things they were saying would mean. 16:58 Also just like comparison, like you watch constantly as a kid who's been doing this for a while, like people just shoot up in a moment and you can't help but compare yourself. 17:08 And like, I've had this conversation with other girls in pop music. 17:12 It's like, even if someone is like a year younger than you and they're at your level, you can't help. 17:16 Cause you're kind of like bred. 17:18 yeah as a girl in this industry to compare yourself to like who is younger and who's doing it better and who is here where you should be so it's taken me a long time to be comfortable and my age even being 27 i'm like yeah i'm so young i feel young for the first time ever 17:38 Trisha Paytas No, I feel that way too. 17:40 I'm 36 and I'm like, I still feel young because it's like in my head. 17:44 But like you said, it's hard not to compare. 17:45 I mean, even like, I don't know, four years ago, I remember when Addison and Charlie were coming up and I was, I was like jealous of them. 17:50 I was like, gosh, I wish that was me, even though like they were 18 or 17 and I was like 32 and I was like, 17:55 Yeah, you just feel that because you are like, wait, I'm not going to be that age anymore. 17:58 It's so sad. 17:59 Rebecca Black Yeah. 17:59 And I don't think that like the Internet realizes how they sometimes play into that, too. 18:04 Like people are always saying things about everyone and to everyone and comparing people without even maybe realizing it. 18:10 And 18:11 I don't know, like I, I feel like something happened when I turned maybe like 26 and definitely this year for me was a big year and like, you know what? 18:21 I need to stop. 18:23 I think because I had started so young, I was pretending like I was so much, I wanted to be seen as so much older and so much more mature and like, you know, like I had everything together and this year I was like, nevermind. 18:35 I'm regressing and that's going to be good. 18:40 And honestly, 18:41 i think for the first time i've like felt my age in a way where i'm like 27 i have no i still have no idea what the hell is going on yeah always i'm trying it out no one really knows 36 too i'm the same way i'm like i don't know where i'm going but we'll figure it out you know well and honestly 18:56 I have to say like being such you being like such a port an important part of my life for so long I've watched you be reborn so many times and that has been so inspiring to me because I think that like as one is as girls and as women and just as anybody in this industry like there is no I did you do you watch Demi Morris speech at the Golden Globes love so yeah it's that is the that is the the 19:25 Trisha Paytas the essence of what i want my life to be you know is to constantly feel like because that's that's the truth yes there's no rules even though we we think there are we think there are but there is this like yeah that's like renaissance now i i'm the same way i look up to like older women like jennifer coolidge or pamela anderson getting nominated demi moore and you're just like or gene hacks one or uh gene smart one for hacks at 72 and i was like ah it's like it just it is inspirational because i always thought too like 30 you're just dead like you might as well not even try anymore 19:52 so but now I'm like wow I'm so young I have so much left you know what I mean so yeah it is I love I love watching people too that and influencers are weird because there's not really an influencer like older than me so it's like hard to see but it is a weird thing because you do you can like 20:06 at some point age out if you don't like age your age. 20:10 You know what I mean?
